According to
Mr. André Janier, the ambassador of France to
Abidjan, France remains the primary commercial
partner of the Ivory Coast and its number
one foreign investor in 2007.
 Ivory
Coast and the European Union sign an economical
partnership
ABIDJAN, 26 Nov 2008 - Ivory Coast and the
European Union (E.U.) signed in Abidjan an
agreement which was seen as steps to complete
the new Agreement of Economical Partnership (PTA)
that will allow the Ivory Coast to benefit from
access to the
European Union’s 27-country free
market. This agreement regulates,
most notably,
the new customs disposals between
the Ivory Coast and the European Union.
The agreement will allow the Ivory Coast (and its companies) to
export all its products freely to the European
Union (E.U.) market progressively without
customs restrictions (for certain categories
of merchandise).
It equally foresees development
assistance to improve the competitiveness of
businesses from the Ivory Coast, to help them to
improve their market parts in Europe.
The agreement will
also help clear a way for more European
investment in the
Ivory Coast. The leading world producer of cocoa, the Ivory Coast
is particularly concerned for its exportations
of cocoa, coffee, bananas, pineapple,
and with properly
developing its young but very strong
industries that currently have much room to grow.
